Profile

Shubhashish Bhutiani is an Indian writer and director, who graduated from New York Citys School of Visual Arts and has since then worked on a short film, Kush (2013). His short film went on to win the National Award for Best Promotional Film and also the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film. The film premise is based on the horrendous 1984 anti-Sikh riots. His 2016 movie Mukti Bhawan (Hotel Salvation in English) premiered at the Dubai Film Festival. The starcast includes prominent actors like Adil Hussain, Palomi Ghosh, Navnindra Behl and Geetanjali Kulkarni.

At just 21, Shubhashish wrote and directed his first short ‘KUSH’, which won over 25 international awards all over the globe, including Venice and having been shortlisted by The Academy in the Best Live Action Short Category for the Oscars, 2014. He is a contemporary director with a different style of storytelling. He dwells deep into the story, characters and environment to bring a different perspective by adding that touch unique to him.

 

To understand other people, all we need is empathy. I find a strong connection to my characters’ emotions. If the audience also feels the same, it goes beyond geographical boundaries
